History of the Gymnasium
There is no exact data on the establishment of a school in Kvėdarna. Written sources mention that in 1609 the pastors of Kvėdarna were obliged to establish a parish school. In 1866 a state school was established in Kvėdarna with the Russian language of instruction. Under German rule, a four-grade primary school was established in 1916 with the Lithuanian language of instruction. In 1935 a six-class primary school began operating in Kvėdarna.
In 1938, the school was named after our famous compatriot priest and linguist Kazimieras Jaunius. In 1950, permission was received to establish a secondary school in Kvėdarna. In 1954, the first class of graduates graduated from the school. In 1966, a 640-seat school extension was built. In 1992, the primary school was separated from the secondary school. In 2001, at the initiative of the school community, the name of priest and linguist Kazimieras Jaunius was returned to the school. In 2007, the school buildings were reconstructed. On December 22, 2007, the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania accredited the secondary education program implemented at the school. On March 1, 2008, the school was granted gymnasium status. In 1954-2021, the school graduated 68 classes. From September 1, 2019 Primary education programs have been launched, and from 2020. September 1, the Pajūralis branch of the Šilalė district Kvėdarna Kazimieras Jaunius Gymnasium will be established.
